Getting started

What kind of game is this?

Crownpupil is a browser strategy game. You start with one city on an island continent, grow it into an empire, raise armies, trade, join an alliance, and compete with real players and computer-controlled players to build monuments and win the world. Everything runs in your browser; there is nothing to install.

How do I create an account?

On the home page, open Register, choose a player name (3–20 letters, digits, spaces, _ or -), a password of at least 6 characters, and your email. Then accept the Terms and Conditions and press Create account. You get a starter city right away.

What should I do first?
  1. Open the City tab and build Forester's Camps next to forest nodes. Resource buildings produce more next to matching nodes.
  2. Add Craftsman's Huts next to your producers. Each hut boosts the buildings around it.
  3. Upgrade the Town Center. It unlocks new buildings and more building slots.
  4. Build a Storage Depot before your resources hit the storage limit.
  5. Claim your Daily Reward and complete Quests (Dashboard → Quests) for free resources.
Am I safe from attacks at the start?

Yes. New players have beginner protection for 144 hours. Nobody can attack you during that time. Use it to build your economy and defences.

Where is everything in the interface?
  • Dashboard: summaries, reports, rankings, mail, market, research, quests, items, settings and this FAQ.
  • City: build and upgrade in your active city.
  • Region: the detailed map around your city.
  • World: an overview of all continents.
  • Store (gold button in the top bar): buy currency.

The ? button on most panels explains that panel.

Cities and buildings

How many buildings can I have?

Each Town Center level gives 10 building slots (level 10 = 100 slots). Resource nodes, the Town Center, the wall, ramparts and unique buildings don't use slots.

What do the resource nodes do?

Forests, clay deposits, ore veins and lakes boost production buildings placed next to them. A producer next to one matching node gets +55%, and each further node adds +40%. Farms also gain +40% for each empty neighbouring tile. You can demolish a node to free its tile, which refunds 750 resources.

What are Craftsman's Huts for?

Huts raise the production of every producer next to them. A good layout puts huts in the gaps between several producers.

What are the boosters (Lumber Yard, Brickyard, Flour Mill, Ore Smelter)?

They multiply the output of adjacent producers of their resource and raise storage. They unlock at Town Center levels 6–9.

How big is the build queue?

Up to 18 jobs. You can pay now or later, reorder jobs, cancel with a refund, and lock the queue order.

Can the game build for me?

Yes. Use City Automation in the city's settings:

  • Automatic Construction upgrades buildings towards target levels you choose. It also builds anything you drew in the City Planner layout.
  • Automatic Recruitment keeps unit counts at your targets.
  • Automatic Trade sends surplus resources to a hub city or requests them from one.
What is a castle?

At Town Center level 8 you can build a Castle (2×2). Castled cities can be captured by sieges, can be chosen by altars and can raise monuments.

Resources and storage

What are the resources?

Wood, clay, ore and grain are produced by buildings. Silver comes from the Bank and from raids. Influence and refined resources (lumber, brick, steel, bread) are used for titles and research.

Why did my production stop?

Your storage is full. Build or upgrade Storage Depots and boosters, spend resources, or trade them away. Or let the overflow be refined automatically (see below).

What happens to resources that don't fit in storage?

Normally they are lost. A city with an Arcane Sanctum at level 10 refines everything that no longer fits, for all four resources: every 1,000 wood, clay, ore or grain above the storage limit becomes 1 lumber, brick, steel or bread. A level 10 Lumber Yard, Brickyard, Ore Smelter or Flour Mill does the same for its own resource only. This works for production, trades, plunder brought home and item rewards. Amounts below 1,000 are kept and counted towards the next refined unit, so nothing is lost.

What happens if I run out of grain?

Troops eat grain. If grain reaches zero while your troops eat more than you grow, the city starves and 10% of its troops desert every hour until you fix it. Build Farms, or send grain by trade.

What is the Hidden Cache?

It protects part of each resource from being plundered.

Troops and recruitment

Which buildings train which troops?
BuildingUnits
Infantry GroundsFootman, Crossbowman, Pikeman
Cavalry GroundsRider, Mounted Archer, Heavy Cavalry
Arcane SanctumArcanist, Elementalist
Warrior's TempleCleric, Crusader, Governor (level 10)
Siege WorkshopRam, Mangonel, Trebuchet
Naval Yard (water cities)Corvette, Galleon, Dreadnaught

Higher building levels unlock stronger units and recruit faster.

What limits my army size?

Troop space, which comes from Quarters. Every unit uses space (cavalry 2, siege 10, ships 100+), and units in the recruitment queue count too.

Can I cancel recruitment?

Yes. Queued batches can be cancelled for a refund, and you can dismiss troops you no longer need. The queue holds up to 5 batches.

Commands and combat

What attack types are there?
  • Assault: fight only.
  • Plunder: fight and carry off resources above the defender's Hidden Cache.
  • Siege: fight, and with a Governor in the army, capture part of a castled city.
  • Scout: see what a city holds.
How do sieges capture a city?

Each won siege on a castled city with a Governor in the army takes 34% control. At 100% the city becomes yours. A player's last city cannot be taken.

Can allies help me defend?

Yes. Reinforcements sent to another player's city stay there and fight alongside its defenders until they are recalled. They can be sent home all at once or in part.

How are battles decided?

Attack power is compared with defence power, including the city wall bonus. The stronger side loses fewer troops. Combat reports (Dashboard → Reports) show both armies before and after, and can be shared with a code.

Can I time my attacks?

Yes. Commands can be scheduled to leave or arrive at an exact time, and can be cancelled within a short window after sending.

Raiding: dungeons and bosses

What are dungeons?

Monster camps on the map (in forests, hills, mountains, rivers and the sea) that hold resources and silver. Raid them with troops that can carry loot. Stronger dungeons hold more but cost more troops. A dungeon runs dry as it is raided and later respawns.

Can raids repeat automatically?

Yes. Send a raid once, continuously, or until a set time. The raid income summary shows what you earned.

What are bosses?

Powerful monsters with big rewards, including currency. If you send enough troops, you win. A defeated boss respawns after a day.

Trade and market

How do I trade between cities?

Build a Market for caravans and, in a water city, a Seaport for ships. Each caravan or ship carries 1,000 resources. Caravans travel only within one continent, and ships sail between water cities anywhere.

How does the market work?

Put resources up for auction for silver. Others bid (with automatic bid steps), and the highest bidder gets the shipment when the auction ends. Outbid players get their silver back. You can subscribe to auctions to follow them.

Alliances

How do alliances work?

Create one or accept an invitation. Up to 20 members. Leaders set ranks and permissions, diplomacy (allies, non-aggression pacts, enemies), announcements, the description and the banner. Alliances have their own chat, log, member list and rankings.

Can I leave an alliance?

Yes, but you must wait 3 days before joining another.

Research and titles

What does research do?

Research permanently improves production, unit strength and speed, trade speed and more. It costs silver and refined resources (lumber, brick, steel, bread).

What are titles for?

Your title sets how many cities you may own and how much influence you can hold. Advancing costs refined resources and silver. The first advance (Baron → Viscount, 40 of each refined resource and 40,000 silver) allows a second city.

How do I get more cities?
  1. Reach a title that allows another city.
  2. Build a Warrior's Temple to level 10 and train a Governor.
  3. From the Region map, send settlers to an empty plain tile. This costs 100,000 wood, 100,000 clay, 25,000 ore, 25,000 grain and the Governor.

Quests and items

How do quests work?

Quests track goals such as resources produced, buildings reached, troops recruited, enemies defeated and city count. Press Complete Quest when a goal is met to collect the reward, and the next level of that quest starts.

What items are there?
ItemEffect
Axe, Shovel, Pick, ScytheInstant wood, clay, ore or grain
Purse, BarrelSilver; mixed resources
Saw, Mold, Flux, Grist StoneRefined lumber, brick, steel or bread towards your next title
SpikeSpeeds up construction. The time is spent on the whole build queue, and what is left is saved for the city's next builds (shown as Acceleration in the build queue)
HammerFaster construction in a city for some days
Capstone, CharterRaise a city's Town Center (Charter also speeds building)
BannerSpeeds up recruitment. The time is spent on the whole recruitment queue, and what is left is saved for later (shown as Acceleration in the recruitment queue)
HornHalves an army's remaining travel time
Marching OrdersMakes a smaller army arrive instantly
Compass, AstrolabeSpeed up caravans or ships
RuneGate orbs
Void SphereA timed empire-wide bonus
Shard of TranspositionMoves a resource node in your city

Item strength grows with your title tier.

World, gates and endgame

What does the world look like?

The world is a grid of island continents (00 to 55) separated by sea and crossed by rivers. New players start on the spawn continent. Other continents open as the world grows.

How do I reach another continent?

Ships sail anywhere between water cities. Land armies can cross only through a Gate, while it is open. Gates open and close on a cycle that the gate panel shows.

What are altars and monuments?

Altars periodically choose a nearby castled city. A chosen city can raise a Monument of the altar's belief, paid for with wood and clay donated by other players through monument trades or monument items.

How is the world won?

An alliance wins when the highest monument of each belief its members own adds up to the target (36 levels). For example, six level-6 monuments, one of each belief.

Store and currency

What is currency for?

Currency buys items, speed-ups, city and castle skins, and avatars. There are two balances: world currency, earned in play (quests, bosses, daily rewards), and purchased currency, bought in the Store. Items use world currency first, and skins use purchased currency first.

How do I buy currency?
  1. Press the gold Store button in the top bar, or Buy Currency under Dashboard → Items.
  2. Pick a pack.
  3. Fill in the billing details the payment provider requires, and accept the terms.
  4. Pay on the secure payment page.
  5. You come back to the game, the currency is added, and an invoice is issued.
Where are my invoices?

Your purchase history is under Dashboard → Settings. Every purchase has a PDF invoice you can download.

Can I get a refund?

Purchased currency is delivered immediately, so the right of withdrawal ends once it is delivered (see the Terms). If a payment went wrong, or the currency didn't arrive, contact us and we will fix it. Refunded or charged-back payments remove the currency they bought.

Are there computer-controlled players?

Yes. Some players are bots run by the server. They build, raid, trade, settle and sometimes attack like everyone else, and they can join alliances or accept your invitations.

Account and safety

I forgot my password. How do I reset it?
  1. On the home page, open Log in and click Forgot password? (or go straight to the reset page).
  2. Enter your player name or the email address of your account and press Send the reset link.
  3. Open the email from us (subject "Reset your password"). If it isn't in your inbox within a few minutes, look in the spam or promotions folder.
  4. Click the link, type your new password twice (at least 6 characters) and save it. Then log in with the new password.

The link works for 1 hour and only once; you can ask for a new one at any time. Resetting logs your account out on every other device, and we send you an email to say the password was changed. If you get that email but did not change your password, reset it again right away and write to support@crownpupil.site.

No email arrives? Your account may have no email address or an old one. Write to support@crownpupil.site from the address you think is on the account and tell us your player name.

How do I change my password?

While logged in, open Change password, enter your current password and the new one twice. Your other devices are logged out. If you don't know your current password, use Forgot password? instead.

Can I share my account or play several accounts?

No. One player per account and one account per player per world. Multi-accounting and account sharing break the Terms.

How do I report a player or a bug?

Report messages from the chat menu, or write to support@crownpupil.site. Please report bugs instead of using them.
